Hector Duarte collaboration
Illinois State University hosted Hector Duarte as the Minority Scholar in Residence
Duarte is a native of Mexico and artist who is very active in the Chicago area.

 "Arte para todos" // Art for All, Prints and Murals of Hector Duarte
Public lecture: Tuesday, October 17, at 3:30 p.m. in CVA 151
  reception following the presentation: CVA 110, University Galleries.

Hector Duarte is a painter, printmaker, and muralist building upon the Mexican muralist tradition and the community mural movement. 
He studied mural painting at David Alfaro Siqueiros’ workshop in Cuernavaca, Mexico. Mr. Duarte has worked on over 40 murals
in the Chicago area and in Mexico. Awards include a National Endowment for the Arts Regional Artists’ Project Grant (1994);
Chicago Dept. of Cultural Affairs’ Community Arts Assistance Grants (1989-93); and numerous commissions and public art awards.

Sponsored by:  the Office of Student Affairs, MECCPAC (Multi-Ethnic Cultural and Co-Curricular Programming Advisory Committee),
the School of Art, and Normal Editions Workshop
Duarte’s residency will consist of a public lecture on his current work,
discussions in classes, interacting with students, faculty and staff, and a collaborative print project.

The Press Portfolio
a fundraising endeavor to benefit the Printmaking areas of the School of Art
The Press Portfolio, a suite of prints by 10 faculty,
will be sold in three groups:  the first 5 portfolios at $1500.00 each,
the next 5 portfolios at $1800.00 each, and the final 5 at $2000.00 each
Participating Artists:  Harold Boyd , James D. Butler, Sean Caulfield , L.J. Douglas , Richard Finch ,
Ray George , Gary Justis , Shona MacDonald , Meda Rives and Veda Rives
Proceeds from this project are designated for the new presses fund to acquire
a new lithography press and an new intaglio press.
Exhibition proofs of this portfolio are available.
