John Whitesell was born in Hamilton, Ohio in 1942. He is an artist and educator living and working in Floyds Knobs, Indiana.

Whitesell participated in a collaborative print project at Normal Editions Workshop in the School of Art at Illinois State University in 1981. Additionally, he participated in the workshop and resulting portfolio, Another Normal Conception in the summer of 1980 and as a presenter in the Frontiers in Printmaking conference celebrating 30 years of Normal Editions.
